ResumoSome methodological aspects related to the spectral evaluation of detached leaves were presented through an experiment in which the spectral differences between the leaves of five species were evaluated. The averages of Hemispherical Reflectance Factors (Frs)of these leaves were determined considering 0.45 to 0.52 m(band 1), 0.52 to 0.60 m (band 2), 0.63 to 0.69 m (band 3)and 0.76 to 0.90 m (band 4)spectral ranges. The significant differences between the Frs in each band were estimated through analysis of variance. In the visible region the leaves of each specie were more similar than in the near infrared region. It was possible to characterize the Azalea leaves comparing the Ameixa leaves in the band 2. In band 3, the Azalea leaves were identified comparing the Ameixa, Hibisco and Bambu. Finaly, leaves were identified comparing the Bambu and Ameixa leaves. The minimum number of leaves to be measured in each band was aldo determined.
